The Travel Tag

Hello travel bloggers,

I was surprised and delighted to get a nomination for the Travel Tag from Shannon. Her blog “Adventures in Thirty Something” is one of my favorite blogs. There she writes about exploring life, discovering new places, books, ideas and jokes. Following Shannon’s adventures is more than enough to make a reader smile and get inspired.

Here are the questions that Shannon asked along with my answers.

1. You are leaving tomorrow to start a life in a new country, where would you go?

I would not move anywhere from the US because there are so many places I have not seen so far. Plus, I like it here. For a long vacation, I would choose Switzerland. It has lots of history, beautiful nature, four seasons, and very friendly outgoing people (many speak English and are ready to help).

2. You can take someone for a weekend away to the place you had the best holiday ever, where would that be and who would you take to go with you?

I would take my husband Terry to a seaside fishing village in Ireland. We would visit an ancient castle, take a boat trip, and take a hike on the top of a rocky cliff, while watching the waves breaking against the rocks below. After a long day full of new adventures we would go to a local pub to listen to traditional Irish music and have pints of Guinness.

3. You can get married wherever you want to; your budget is limitless, what is your choice?

We got married already and had a lovely celebration, but I would like to celebrate our anniversary on a quiet Hawaiian beach, dancing and wearing leis made of fresh flowers. A local band would be playing “Somewhere over the rainbow…” and other Hawaiian songs.

4. During your travel you can bring back home one animal as a pet, which one would you pick?

I would bring back a Red-lored Amazon Parrot. This kind of bird is known for its talking and singing ability. It also has beautiful plumage of green feathers and a few red ones on the top of its head. I would teach the bird a few Russian words and phrases. This would be a great reason to take a trip to visit the Amazon jungle.

5. You can go back in time and relive one family trip, which one?

That would be our family trip to the Museum of Wooden Architecture and Folk Art in Malye Korely, a village 25 kilometers away from Arkhangelsk, Russia. We had lots of fun there, wondering around an old wooden church, a bell tower, a chapel and peasant houses built without using a single nail. It was like going back in time. We also swung on a huge wooden swing and had a picnic on a top of a wooden well, which had a large wheel and a bucket on a rope attached to it for extracting water.

6. What is the first thing you would pack for a one year travel around the world?
I would pack our camera.

7. What would your fantasy 100th birthday destination be, and why?

Perhaps, I would take a cruise around the South America through the Straits of Magellan with a side trip to Antarctica. It would be nice to pet penguins and enjoy a spectacular view of glaciers and the rugged coast of Chile. This trip is closer to the end of my bucket list.

8. During your travel you can learn one sport to become a pro, what would that be?

I would like to learn kiteboarding. It would be great to be able to ride waves being pulled by the kite powered by wind. If this would be too challenging to master, paragliding or surfing would be sufficient to begin with.
The Travel Tag was a fun and pleasant writing experience, which helped me realize some of my travel dreams and be thankful for the wonderful moments in the past. I hope that the Travel Tag nomination would work its magic for you as it did for me.
